Publishers Full Description:
This is the final book in our series on the German target arms; but the story is not all told. What is contained in these three books barely scratches the surface of an interesting and vast subject.
The Germans took recreational shooting to a level not achieved in any other country. Most countries' shooting sports had their emphasis on training for preparation for war. The Germans, however, dedicated their efforts to making a series of arms that were good for one thing and one thing only and that was to accurately punch a hole in a target. No war, no killing; just a good time; and did they have a good time! We have all heard the expression "Wine, women and song," the German version would be "Beer, women and shooting."
The arms covered in this volume are the pistols and the parlor (Zimmerstutzen) rifles. The Germans almost single-handedly created free pistols and the vast array of types makes an interesting collection. The Zimmerstutzens, which died out because of laws during the occupation after WWII, were the predecessors to today's air rifle shooting. Again, there is an endless variety of types and variations.
The accessories, such as sights and loading tools as well as medals, steins and related items comprise the balance of this book.
