This book narrates the development of the marionette both as a work of art and as a figure for playing with and describes how it moves. A puppet is suspended on strings. Looked at physically, this makes it a pendulum and therefore it can be explained by the laws governing the movements of a pendulum. The continual toing and froing about its point of rest is the special feature of a pendulum. At the upper-most point of its swing there is a momentary pause, a brief rest.
